The Profile Picture

One of the easiest ways people fail to make full use of their Twitter account is by not uploading a picture. By default, Twitter will insert an anonymous little bird as your profile picture. While this doesn’t matter so much if you have a private account, having a profile picture of any kind is crucial to your personal brand.

For individuals, it’s best to use a photo of yourself or something that clearly represents you. Cartoon caricatures or creative Photoshop versions are popular alternatives if you’d rather keep your real identity under wraps.

For business and corporations, the Twitter picture can develop strong associations as it is a constant visual reminder of who you are and what you tweet about. Your company logo, mascot, even the face of your social media person are good options. This is one place where you don’t want to get fancy. Less is definitely more!
