LOS ANGELES—A Los Angeles charter school founder has repaid his organization more than $50,000 after an internal review found that expenses he had charged were undocumented or unjustified.

The Los Angeles Times reported on its Web site Tuesday that Steve Barr’s repayment was disclosed in a tax return filed this year by Green Dot Public Schools.

Green Dot chairman Shane Martin told the Times that the costs at issue related to missing receipts and “isolated instances of expenses that were more extravagant than they needed to be.”

Martin says the problem was caught internally and everyone cooperated fully.

Green Dot Public Schools is one of the state’s largest charter operators.
