How to Raise Money for a Nonprofit

Your Fundraising Campaign And The Call To Action

We live in a country that has jumped on the awareness wagon. Americans love spreading “awareness” about social issues that need attention. While knowing about domestic and international problems is half the battle for many of us, spreading awareness must be coupled with invoking an immediate call to action. Too many times people put off taking action, saying, “I’ll call and donate to end world hunger next week when I have more time,” or “I’ll run that half marathon for Hodgkin’s lymphoma when I’m in better shape.”

In the nonprofit arena, time is always of the essence. Change must happen now. Many of your potential donors might have the desire to offer their time and energy, but they may need a little coaching. Motivate your audience through captivating story telling and hard facts about your nonprofit’s situation – this may convince them to act sooner rather than later.

Prospective contributors like to see results. They will be more interested in helping when their efforts have tangible outcomes. Inform your audience about the results of your nonprofit’s efforts by displaying statistics, showing before and after images, connecting them with individuals or communities they’ll be directly helping, or giving them public recognition for their gifts.
